Can I swim with my gold-plated jewellery?

Can I swim with my gold-plated earrings, necklace, bracelet or ring?

Sometimes there are those days where you might forget to take off your jewellery before hopping in the pool. You may also go swimming in the beach with your jewellery on and not know whether this will have an effect on your gold plated jewellery. In short, we do not recommend wearing your gold plated jewellery in the pool or ocean given it can shorten the lifespan of the gold layer on top, resulting in fading and tarnishing. Any long-term exposure to moisture or other chemicals, perfumes or cleaning products can cause the plating to wear off over time. The best way to prevent this or delay this process is by protecting your jewellery from moisture where possible. For example, before hopping in the shower or going for a swim, secure your gold plated jewellery in its original box or a storage dish close by. If you are going swimming in the pool (high amounts of chlorine) we recommend removing any gold plated earrings, necklaces, bracelets or rings to avoid exposing the jewellery to the chemicals present in swimming pools and high amounts of salt in the ocean.

We understand, however, that this is not always workable in practice! Sometimes we forget or just don't have a safe place to keep our valuables. If that happens, try and dry the jewellery with a soft microfiber cloth or lightly rinse the jewellery if it's been exposed to chlorine before drying it off. With proper care and maintenance of your gold plated earrings, necklace, rings or bracelet, you should be able to prolong its shine and keep it looking beautiful in the longrun.
